Mustache & Ghost's Rescue

Just last week, Mustache and Ghost were driven across the Mexican border to our rescue, where they’re now all prepared to go to new homes after everything they’ve gone through. It’s been a long journey for them.

At about 2.5 months of age, they were found covered in fleas, emaciated, Ghost’s eyes swollen shut, and mucous and other liquids covering their paws. They had minor skin conditions and horribly dirty ears. They quickly got veterinary care and began their recovery process in foster homes in Tijuana, where they were found. In Tijuana and many other cities in Mexico, there are little to no places for strays to go - rarely anyone adopts, and the very few shelters that exist use electrocution as their primary euthanasia method when conditions become too overcrowded, or when animals are sick and difficult to treat. In the US, electrocution is not an allowable form of humane euthanasia for animals (in fact, it’s a very cruel and painful process for many animals). In many regions in Mexico, the populations of stray dogs and cats outnumber the people. Without humans to help, many kittens like Ghost and Mustache perish before ever knowing what being in the safety of a home means.

Ghost and Mustache are now 4 months old and fully recovered, thanks to great veterinary care and foster homes. Their fur has grown in, no more swollen eyes, and they’re receiving lots of love and attention at the rescue. They’re currently searching for their forever homes! They’re two sweet balls of love and charm, and they’re certainly sure to brighten someone’s home.
