I found a stray - what do I do?
We are unable to take in strays due to our contracts with animal controls that we work with. Please reach out to your nearest Animal Control for help - this is to ensure that their potential owners can more easily locate them and also to ensure that we work with policy. Depending on where you found the animal, they may eventually end up with our rescue!
I need to surrender a pet adopted from your rescue
Please attempt to get in touch with your previous adoption coordinator first or email adoptions@vida4animals.org. Surrender fees will likely still apply if you are surrendering your pet far beyond your adoption date.
How long do animals stay at your rescue?
On average, cats only stay 10 days after their medical and behavioral observation period of a few days before they find their forever homes. Kittens, even less (given they are old enough, about 8 weeks). For dogs, depending on their breed, behavior, and age, they could find their forever homes in under a week. Animals very infrequently stay for longer than 1.5 months, and almost never over 6 months. Animals stay with us for as long as they need, sometimes going into foster care (a temporary home) if they have stayed with us for a month or more.
How do you choose homes for cats/dogs?
All animals, whether surrendered or strays, follow the same process. We treat all animals equally! First, we provide wellness checks and make sure all animals at up to date on vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and flea treated. We assess their behavior, temperament, and personalities to understand what kind of home would be best for them. We then review many applications extensively and only choose homes in the best interest of the animals.
What other options do I have?
We recommend inquiring with Priceless Pet Rescue, a nearby rescue that helps cats, dogs, and other animals. We also recommend visiting Inland Valley Humane Society's website and finding their "Home to Home program" - this program allows for pet owners to post their pets online to help find them homes. This prevents them from going to the shelter. Other rescues near us include:
